دربارهٔ کتاب

The wireless community is on the verge of the standardization of fourth generation (4G) systems. Research has generated a number of solutions for significant improvement of system performance. The development of enabling technologies such as adaptive coding and modulation, iterative (turbo) decoding algorithms and space-time coding, means that industry can now implement these solutions. "Advanced Wireless Communications: 4G Technologies" focuses on the system elements that provide adaptability and reconfigurability and discusses how these features can improve 4G system performance. There are several different systems comprising 4G, including adaptive WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), ATDMA (Adaptive Time Division Multiple Access), Multicarrier (OFDMA) and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) receiver elements. This book provides a comparative study of these technologies and focuses on their future co-existence. Topics covered include: space time coding, including discussions on diversity gain, the encoding and transmission sequence, the combining scheme and ML decision rule for two-branch transmit diversity scheme with one and M receivers. This book covers topics such as: Ultra Wide Band Radio, UWB multiple access in Gaussian channels, the UWB channel, UWB system with M-ary modulation, M-ary PPM UWB multiple access, coded UWB schemes, multi-user detection in UWB radio, UWB with space time processing and beam forming for UWB radio; antenna array signal processing with focus on Space-Time receivers for CDMA communications, Music and Esprit DOA estimation, joint array combining and MLSE receivers, joint combiner and channel response estimation and complexity reduction in the wide-band beam forming; and, channel modeling and measurement, adaptive MAC, adaptive routing and TCP layer. This book will supply the reader with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the systems performance, its complexity/reliability and cost-effectiveness. It gives an insight into the impact of existing and new technologies on the receiver structure and provides an understanding of current approaches and evolving directions for personal and indoor communication.

The chiral analysis of environmental pollutants is a fairly recent development and attracts scientists needing to investigate the toxicity of enantiomers. For example, approximately 25% of agrochemicals are chiral in nature, including pesticides that are applied as their racemates in agricultural and forestry activities. To predict the exact toxicity of pollutants the determination of the concentration of both enantiomers in environmental matrices is essential. Various approaches to chiral resolution have been developed for the analysis of pharmaceuticals and drugs but this is the first text to present detailed metholodology on the chiral separation of pollutants. This book is divided into 10 chapters: the first is an introduction to the principles of chirality; Chapters 2 to 9 discuss the sources, distribution, biotransformation, toxicity, sample preparation and chiral resolution of environmental pollutants by chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. In addition, the optimization of experimental parameters for chromatographic and capillary electrophoretic techniques is presented, making this book a useful how to guide to chiral pollutants analysis. Coverage of the types, structures and properties of chiral stationary phases and their applications for the analysis of chiral pollutants is also presented. The concluding chapter reports on chiral legislation globally, and presents perspectives which could guide future research in this area. This book will be of interest to researchers in biology, analytical chemistry and the environmental in industry, academia and governmental regulatory agencies Provides a comparative analysis of the 4G techniques and examines their co-existence. Due to the broad range of topic areas that it covers, the book will be ideal for systems engineers that are looking to develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the direction that the technology is moving in. It compares adaptive WCDMA, ATDMA, Multicarrier (OFDMA) and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) receiver elements. It has a special focus on the future co-existence of these systems in the evolution of 3G and the elements of the 4G like time-space-frequency coding, MIMO systems, adaptive coding, modulation and turbo equalization. It analyses and discusses WCDMA, TDMA and other relevant 4G technologies in one coherent framework The wireless community is on the verge of the standardization of fourth generation (4G) systems. Research has generated a number of solutions for significant improvement of system performance. This work focuses on the system elements that provide adaptability and reconfigurability and discusses how these features can improve 4G system performance.
