دربارهٔ کتاب

This short textbook presents sixty cases with the detail and patient-specific data encountered in actual clinical practice. Cases cover the major points emphasized in the in-training exam and in written and oral boards. The cases are rigorously developed using two models. The Developed Case model features a step-by-step format that highlights the decisions made at each step. The Case Reflection model features a short narrative, followed by analysis of how the management and outcome might have been improved. Cases are referenced with current articles in support of particular strategies. Each case includes a boxed Key Points section and self-assessment questions.

Reviewer:Mohammed Minhaj, MD(University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine)
Description:This review of common topics in anesthesia uses a case-based format, presenting a clinical scenario followed by questions.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide a clinically based review of anesthesia that approaches topics in a fashion different than the typical board examination/keyword approach. A topic is presented through the eyes of a practitioner caring for a patient and through the course of a discussion of the case. This approach is gaining a great deal of popularity in education and the book meets its objectives.
Audience:The audience is broad. Although medical students and anesthesia residents would benefit the most, seasoned attendings might benefit from a review of a topic they don't often encounter.
Features:Topics vary from current debates on beta-blockade and the use of recombinant factor VII to perioperative ischemia, liver dysfunction, and postoperative analgesia. Several chapters cover more recent pharmacological/technical advances in the field as well as traditional clinical dilemmas such as anaphylaxis.
Assessment:This is a nice addition to an anesthesia library geared toward anesthesiology residents. More topics and more recent topics are reviewed than in Yao and Artusio's Anesthesiology: Problem-Oriented Patient Management, 6th edition (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2008), although the latter does present a greater level of detail.
