دربارهٔ کتاب
Over 100 drugs are listed in this reference along with information on contraindications and side effects. The material is organized into two alphabetical sections: dermatologic therapy and dermatologic conditions. Various symbols denote USFDA approval, randomized controlled trials, case series and case reports. Each dermatologic condition entry includes a description of the pathogenesis and different treatment options. The data for diseases and drugs are cross-referenced. Doody Review ServicesReviewer:Kathleen E Kramer, MD(Stanford University)
Description:This book attempts a complete yet concise description of medications used in dermatology. Indications for many dermatologic treatments are not FDA approved, but based on trials or case reports, and the book denotes this using symbols next to each indication. Also, a section at the end reviews 75 of the most common dermatologic diseases and treatment options for these. This helps for quick cross reference.
Purpose:It is intended as a quick yet concise reference to medications used in dermatology. This is useful in a busy dermatology practice as one can use this book to look up which medications are used in a particular disease, find out the strength of the recommendation (FDA approved, case reports only, etc.), and review safety and dosing of these medications. The authors do a fine job of meeting these goals.
Audience:The book is written for residents and medical students as well as practicing dermatologists. It will be most useful for the latter group as it is a fine and complete guide for quick reference. The authors all appear to be credible authorities.
Features:The book is divided into two parts: first an alphabetical listing of medications used in dermatology. For each is listed indications for use with symbols to denote the strength of the indication, and then mechanism of action, dosage, side and adverse effects, monitoring, drug interactions, and pregnancy class are listed for each. The second part is a listing of 75 dermatologic conditions and the medications often used in each. This allows easy reference either from disease to medication ormedication to disease. The book is simply written, straightforward and easy to use. The font could have been a bit better to make the drug names stand out more and flipping through the book would be slightly easier.
Assessment:This simple and straightforward guide to dermatologic medications referenced both by medication and by disease will be useful to any practicing dermatologist as a quick guide. Unlike the PDR, it lists only dermatologic medications and using symbols it denotes the strength of indication for a particular disease. I am already finding it very useful on a daily basis and would recommend it highly.
