دربارهٔ کتاب

DIAGNOSIS OF ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSIES, Second Edition, revised and now with color illustrations, continues the tradition as being the most concise and complete diagnostic guide to the endometrial biopsy. A review from MODERN PATHOLOGY praises it as being "extremely useful for the practicing pathologist because it outlines criteria for diagnosis, helps in solving diagnostic diagnostic dilemmas, and clarifies controversial issues." The text is structured to present a logical approach to formulating a pathologic diagnosis from the diverse array of tissue received in the surgical pathology laboratory. Color illustrations show typical artifacts and distortion and explain their impact on diagnostic interpretation. Each chapter includes a section on "Clinical Queries and Reporting" that summarizes the features that must be discussed in the final pathology report. The authors are two prominent gynecologic pathologists, and this book is derived from their long-running Short Course presented at the International Academy of Pathology.

Reviewer:Barbara M Shideler, MD(University of Kansas Medical Center)
Description:This is the second edition of a useful guide to the diagnosis of endometrial biopsies, with an emphasis on the clinical aspects of gynecologic pathology. It reflects updated knowledge in gynecologic pathology of the last few years, and the relevance of pathologic diagnosis to patient care. The first edition was published in 1995.
Purpose:The purpose is to offer a practical reference for the everyday interpretation of endometrial biopsies and curettings. The objective seems worthy, as the authors realistically address both classic and less-than-perfect examples of tissues that the surgical pathologist may encounter. The authors have succeeded nicely in meeting this objective.
Audience:The book is directed at practicing pathologists, both in general surgical pathology and in gynecologic pathology. The book would also be useful to residents and fellows in surgical pathology, and those in obstetrics and gynecology who wish to increase their knowledge of gynecologic pathology and oncology. The authors exhibit a wealth of experience in pathology and pathophysiology of gynecologic diagnostic entities as well as knowledge of current trends in grading, staging, and clinical implications of the pathology report.
Features:The book addresses both neoplastic and non-neoplastic diagnostic entities in an orderly sequence. The authors include interesting clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment and the implications of the pathology report in patient care for most illnesses. Detailed pathophysiologic descriptions are given, as well as immunohistochemicalstaining patterns and photomicrographs of many disorders. Approximately two-thirds of the photomicrographs are black and white, with the remaining one-third in color. The photos are useful and reproduce well, and include detailed legends that are helpful to the reader.
Assessment:This is a high-quality and useful contribution to gynecologic surgical pathology. The second edition reflects necessary updates in the knowledge and treatment of gynecologic diagnostic entities, both neoplastic and non-neoplastic.

Diagnosis of Endometrial Biopsies and Curettings, 2nd edition, revised and now with color illustrations, continues the tradition of its predecessor as being the concise and complete diagnostic guide to the endometrial biopsy. A review from Modern Pathology touts it as being "extremely useful for the practicing pathologist because it outlines criteria for diagnosis, helps in solving diagnostic dilemmas, and clarifies controversial issues." The text is structured to present a logical approach to formulating a pathologic diagnosis from the diverse array of tissue received in the surgical pathology laboratory with an emphasis on differential diagnosis. More than 220 illustrations complement the text, with 70 of them in full color throughout. Each chapter includes a section on "Clinical Queries and Reporting", which summarizes the features that must be discussed in the final pathology report. The authors are two prominent gynecologic pathologists, and this book is derived from their long-running Short Course presented at the International Academy of Pathology. From rave reviews of the first edition: "This delightful and well written monograph stresses the practical aspects and common problems in endometrial biopsy interpretation. The preface states that this dissertation focuses on often subtle microscopic findings ignored by most standard texts but often present pathologists with significant challenges in daily practice. Substantially, the authors succeed in their goal." Int J Gyn Path Derived from the authors' long-running course presented at the International Academy of Pathology, this second edition, now with color illustrations, continues the tradition of its predecessor as being the concise and complete diagnostic guide to the endometrial biopsy. The text is structured so as to present a logical approach to formulating a pathologic diagnosis from the diverse array of tissue received in the surgical pathology laboratory. Color illustrations show typical artifacts and distortion, and explain their impact on diagnostic interpretation. Each chapter includes a section summarizing the features that must be discussed in the final pathology report. "Since publication of the first edition in 1995, Diagnosis of Endometrial Biopsies and Curettings has emerged as the standard diagnostic guide in the field. This completely revised and updated Second Edition fills the need for a practical monograph on endometrial biopsies. Emphasis is placed on aspects of endometrial biopsy interpretation, such as patterns of breakdown, diagnosis of atypical hyperplasia, grading of endometrial carcinoma, and the myriad of benign changes and artifacts. Includes more than 220 illustrations, 77 in full color."--BOOK JACKET
