Everything I do..

Overview: My intention is not to replicate or copy someone else’s story or characters. The story of this Kashmakash was in my mind for a very very long time. But not being a writer by profession, (I am not even a literature student. I am an MBA who worked in a web based business company till June 2012) I did not know how to bring that story to life. It was just there..lurking at the back of my mind..wanting to take shape but not knowing how. Then one night, I got back from work, all tired and grumpy, wanting nothing more to do than spend some time playing with my two kids or just kick back my feet and relax. Since my kids were busy with their own paintings and legos, I started channel surfing and came across this serial in Sony Channel – Kuch toh log kahenge. I quickly got into youtube and caught up with all the episodes that I missed before. The uniqueness of the story caught my interest and by the end of that week, my only thought was “Here is a way to bring my story out! It can take the form of these characters. The little boy in this story can grow up to become Dr Ashutosh and his kashmakash can be brought forth when he falls in love with Dr Nidhi.” Then after a few more months of my own kashmakash as to whether to really write something of this kind or not, I finally penned it down sometime in October – November 2012. The characters are all the same as in the serial. But the story is entirely a different one. I had two solid sounding boards with me. My friends, Malvika and Divya. Had it not been for these two, I don’t think this story would have come out the way it did. “All I wanted was a son. A boy. An heir. To carry the family name and the company forward into the future. Instead, I got you! Two daughters. Fit for nothing except to marry someone and walk away.”Kajal Rathore had walked out of her home and her father after that confrontation, making a life and living it on her own terms. Away from the archaic chauvinism that made her father reject her because she was not the son he wanted.Now her father’s flailing health has brought her back to her home. And to the company that had been in her family for generations. Once Kajal had had a dream of becoming a part of that company, and now the fates are handing over that dream. But to claim it, she would have to confront the father who denies her, the mother who never stood up for her, the sister who needs her and the man who wants her.“I want you to marry Kajal. I don’t...
