It was the time of a great improvement in quality not only for perfor­mance in every respect, but also for the fact that the new macchine kept intact the already excellent flying characteristics of its predecessor the C. 200 Saetta (Thunderbolt).The planning and construction of the Folgore (lightning) derived from the aquisition of the rights by Italy to build the Daimler-Benz DB 601 A engi­ne under licence. Engineer Mario Castoldi then arranged for it to be mounted on a C. 200 airfra­me, which had been appropriately adapted and modified.
