دربارهٔ کتاب

Very few medical professionals, less that 1%, understand the impact that neuromuscular conditions (including Post Polio Sequelae) have on the respiratory drive; in fact, they rarely associate the two. This physician-author is the world expert, and everyone involved in neuromuscular conditions, including patients, caregivers, and the medical profession must read his pbulications to save lives. Too many people in this health category are being misdiagnosed, or ignored, and diagnosed with a "Sleep Disorder" or wrongly put on Oxygen, when in fact, their diaphragm and/or intercostal muscles are insufficent to help them expel CO2; however, most Respiratory Therapists do know this and also that Sleep Studies cannot diagnose Shallow Breathing. Dr. Bach must be listened to if 1000s in the world are to be not only saved, but treated humanely.

This book describes the use of inspiratory and expiratory muscle aids to prevent the pulmonary complications of lung disease and conditions with muscle weakness. It also describes treatment and rehabilitation interventions specific for patients with these conditions. This book is unique in presenting the use of entirely noninvasive management alternatives to eliminate respiratory morbidity and mortality and avoid the need to resort to tracheostomy for the majority of patients with lung or neuromuscular disease.

• Cost effectiveness of and patient preference for noninvasive ventilation methods are discussed

• Emphasis on quality-of-life issues

• Acute care and home care settings are addressed

• Illustrative case studies amplify the concepts presented

• Comprehensively addresses total care of the patient who needs noninvasive ventilation

• Best available book on the market for managing the patient with neuromuscular weakness

"This book is unique in presenting the use of noninvasive ventilatory techniques to eliminate respiratory morbidity and mortality and to avoid the need to resort to tracheostomy for the majority of patients with lung or neuromuscular disease. Noninvasive mechanical ventilation has been shown to prolong survival while decreasing the risk of pulmonary complications, hospitalizations, and costs. In addition, patients with neuromuscular and lung disorders prefer noninvasive means over tracheal intubation and tracheostomy for ventilatory support and secretion management. This book presents the various noninvasive inspiratory and expiratory muscle aids and the outcomes of their use in patients with respiratory muscle dysfunction. It describes treatment and rehabilitation interventions specific for patients with these conditions."--BOOK JACKET Describes the use of inspiratory and expiratory muscle aids to prevent the pulmonary complications of lung disease and conditions with muscle weakness. This book also describes treatment and rehabilitation interventions, specific for patients with these conditions. It presents the use of non-invasive management to eliminate and avoid diseases.
