دربارهٔ کتاب

Overview: Kelli Jae Baeli began writing as a child, exploring poetry and journaling, and eventually moving on to short stories. After a romantic fling in the military with another female soldier, she decided to write a book based on the experience. The story that evolved took on a life of its own, but it became her first novel, As You Were. This was followed quickly by Armchair Detective, a book she said she wrote because she couldn’t find other lesbian fiction she liked at the time, and so wanted to write something she would want to read. She's been doing that ever since. This Book Aims To Penetrate The Mists Of Controversy, Ideology And Prejudice By Providing A Clear Non-mathematical Framework For The Definition And Measurement Of Intelligence Derived From Modern Factor Analysis. Building On This Framework And Drawing On Everyday Ideas, The Author Addresses Key Controversies In A Clear And Accessible Style And Explores Some Of The Claims Made By Well-known Writers In The Field Such As Stephen Jay Gould And Michael Howe.--jacket. 1. The study and measurement of human intelligence is one of the most controversial subjects in psychology. For much of its history, the focus has been on differences between people, what it means for one individual to be more intelligent than the other, and how such differences might have arisen. With the emphasis on these issues, the efforts to understand the general nature of intelligence have been obscured.
The author provides clear, comprehensive, and extremely readable introduction to this difficult subject. In addition to a discussion of the traditional topics raised by IQ tests, this book attempts to bring the theory and data of cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience to bear on some of these other, equally important scientific questions.

This book provides an overview of the main issues around the study of intelligence, including the modern development of IQ testing, environmental and hereditary effects on intelligence, factor analysis, and theories of intelligence. It also looks at different kinds of intelligence, such as verbal and spatial abilities, and reasoning and problem solving. Mackintosh (psychology, U. of Cambridge) incorporates explanatory boxes and chapter summaries making this a useful text for advanced undergraduates and graduate students in psychology. Annotation c. The testing of intelligence has a long and controversial history. Claims that it is a pseudo-science or a weapon of ideological warfare have been commonplace and there is not even a consensus as to whether intelligence exists and, if it does, whether it can be measured. As a result the debate about it has centred on the nurture versus nature controversy and especially on alleged racial differences and the heritability of intelligence - all of which have major policy implications. This book aims to penetrate the mists of controversy, ideology and prejudice by providing a clear non-mathematical framework for the definition and measurement of intelligence derived from modern factor analysis. Building on this framework and drawing on everyday ideas the author address key controversies in a clear and accessible style and explores some of the claims made by well known writers in the field such as Stephen Jay Gould and Michael Howe. This book penetrates the thicket of controversy, ideology and prejudice surrounding the measurement of intelligence to provide a clear non-mathematical analysis of it. The testing of intelligence has a long and controversial history and whether intelligence exists and can be measured still remains unresolved. The debate about it has centered on the "nurture versus nature" controversy and especially on alleged racial differences and the heritability of intelligence. Kelli Jae Baeli, Indie Author and Publisher with Indie Literati Press and Lesbian Literati Press, and author of 40 books, numerous articles, stories and essays, shares some thoughts about the writing craft and the writer's life, which necessarily also includes lots of reading. Followed by thoughtful examinations, splenetic ruminations and often humorous outbursts of weirdness. The testing of intelligence has a long and controversial history. This book aims to penetrate the mists of controversy, ideology and prejudice which surround the measurement of intelligence and to provide a clear, non-mathematical treatment drawing on familiar everyday ideas
