Saga

As this book opens, a ship is approaching New Earth, and it connects with the mainframe that maintains Epic. In the process, it downloads Saga, a thousands year old program similar that overwrites Epic. Saga, is another virtual online roleplaying game that was originally created on Earth itself. The setting is one that is futuristic, and the whole realm is ruled by the Dark Queen. She is one of the last of a group of non-player characters created for the game who were able to develop sentience. Over the years, these charactes turned on each other, assassinating in attempts to gain ultimate power. Ghost is part of an anarcho-punk airboard gang who live to break the rules. And there's a good reason - their world, Saga, has a strict class system enforced by high-tech electronics and a corrupt monarchy. Then Ghost and her gang learn the complicated truth. Saga isn't actually a place; it's a sentient computer game. The Dark Queen who rules Saga is trying to enslave the people of New Earth by making them Saga addicts. And she will succeed unless Ghost and her friends - and Erik, from Epic, and his friends - figure out how to stop her in time. On Saga, a world based on a video role-playing game, fifteen-year-old Ghost lives to break rules, but the Dark Queen who controls Saga plans to enslave its people and those of New Earth, and Ghost and her airboarding friends, along with Erik and his friends from Epic, try to stop her
